Bio
Xue Li is a contemporary Chinese artist and art historian active in both Australia and China, with a strong focus on feminist art and theory. She is employed at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, one of China’s top three art academies, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Visual Arts at Edith Cowan University. Xue’s work spans various media, including painting, mixed media, installations, and performance, and she blends traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western academic methods to create a unique fusion of artistic form and cultural thought.
Her art addresses themes of women’s images, inner emotions, personal experiences, and landscapes, all through a feminist lens. Xue’s dedication to exploring feminist perspectives is reflected not only in her artworks but also in her academic contributions. She has presented at international conferences and published articles in academic journals, delving into feminist perspectives on Chinese art history and contemporary female artists.
Xue has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows internationally, including in the United States, France, Korea, Australia, and China. This unique combination of theoretical knowledge and practical art places Xue Li at the forefront of contemporary feminist art discourse.
